The Principal Yoga Teacher at YOGA BURRA, Tina Taylor, is a university-qualified Respiratory Educator, providing breathing retraining services through The Breathing Clinic & Wellness Centre.

Breathing is something we tend to take for granted until something goes wrong and our breathing is noticeably affected or we suspect our breathing patterns may be triggering unpleasant symptoms that compromise our quality of life.

At The Breathing Clinic & Wellness Centre we specialise in addressing dysfunctional breathing patterns, which includes chronic mouth breathing, shallow upper chest breathing, rapid breathing and hyperventilation.

These breathing patterns can occur in conjunction with respiratory conditions such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and other medical conditions including obstructive sleep apnoea, gastro-oesophageal reflux and cardiovascular conditions.

Dysfunctional breathing patterns can also occur in association with stress, and as a matter of habit. These breathing patterns can produce disconcerting symptoms as well as worsen symptoms associated with pre-existing medical conditions, including the following:

  • Breathlessness
  • Increased effort of breathing
  • Chest tightness
  • Unable to breathe deeply
  • Sensation of air hunger
  • Coughing
  • Suspended breathing (apnoeas)
  • Tingling of extremities
  • Chest pain
  • Cardiac arrhythmias
  • Racing heart
  • Light-headedness, dizziness
  • Fainting
  • Confusion
  • Headaches
  • Impaired ability to think
  • Numbness of lips
  • Lower back pain
  • Jaw pain, jaw clicking
  • Head and neck pain
  • Dry mouth or throat
  • Slurred speech
  • Feeling stressed, anxious
  • Feeling fearful
  • Feeling disconnected
  • Hyperactivity
  • Cold hands or feet
  • Muscle tension
  • Muscle spasms
  • Seizures
  • Bloated abdomen.

Breathing Retraining Programmes offered at The Breathing Clinic & Wellness Centre are educational, informative and instructive.  They give clients the knowledge and skills they need to gain more control from the inside-out to reduce symptoms and improve their quality of life.   These programmes also provide clients with a healthy breathing foundation and the confidence to explore other beneficial lifestyle changes to support their best health and wellbeing.
